Having faithfully read your blog back in those days (eg., 2014-2015, as well as what your written thoughts were when your wrote TYOL, I remember that early time well. How time flies, eh :-)
I'm sure that you'll have quite a few things to comment about relating to that time in your life and how, through years of life experience since then, you may have changed some opinions and attitudes that you had back then.
You know ("just for giggles") it would prove interesting if more of us did the same thing: searched back a good number of years into our past writings and/or memories to discover, to see, based on years of experience, just how much we still agree (or probably disagree) on some of the issues that affected our thinking back in those days.
As I like to remind myself: learn from the past, adjust accordingly and plan for the future, live fully for today but remember that everything in life is basically just small stuff in the grand scheme of things.
I had a similar idea with my own writing. I keep my stacks of journals in the attic taking up space. I havenโt revisited them in years. Sometimes Iโm afraid of what they will remind me of. All the dreams and actions that I never took. I do think there is value in looking back, but without guilt or shame.
Terrific idea! So glad Iโm a paying member, I canโt wait for this๐ reminds me of when I was guided to go back over some old journals. It was a very dark time in my life and I didnโt know what I was going to find there/was scared of what Iโd read. I didnโt look for a long time. Then when I eventually did I discovered there was a book in there! I turned my own journals into a journal that others could work with and use. For now, itโs still sat in its first draft format and hasnโt seen the light of dayโฆ.๐ itโs coming though, itโs nearly time for it to make its way out into the world.
The biggest realisation I had over what was such a dark time though, was that the light was on. Just nobody was home. And the version of me that wrote those journals knew what she was doing. She just put herself in environments where everyone told her she didnโt. All her days were spent drowning in doubt, confined to 4 small walls and limitations placed everywhere. There is n
So fun and I will be looking forward to this follow along that you are going to be doing for the next 12 weeks. Kind of makes me wonder since it has been so long since I read the book if I should pick it back up again as well to "follow along". ๐
What a great idea! Reading your blog and book made a huge impression on me during a time when I felt like a weirdo for wanting less "stuff." Hooray on the spaces you've made and continue to refine to meet your needs.
Your comment has reminded me it's important to remember the positive impact TYOL has had on othersโand not just reflect on the bits that don't feel great for me today. Thank you for sharing, Marlena!
Looking forward to this Cait especially as someone who has read TYOL several times, but also as someone who was there back in days of Blonde on a Budget ๐ค๐ฉท
This sounds like a wonderful project for the summer. I rarely reread books but when I do there is always something new I notice. It will be interesting to hear your thoughts and insights as the author. Canโt wait. ๐
Cait, I'm SO excited for this! I plan to read TYOL alongside with you - I'm due for a re-read anyway! (And can use some motivation to curtail my own spending over the summer... haha)
Very excited about this as I've just reread TYOL, partly to give me the push to donate the clothes I don't wear (which I did, thanks) and partly inspired by a few comments you've made in your posts this year. I'll be fascinated to read your insights 10 years on.
Top idea Cait! i listened to TYOL via audible this February and it touched me in some way as well it made me laugh at certain moments. Also giving me the support to keep going with declotering and "ontspullen" as we say in the Netherlands. I'm looking forward to your retrospective onTYOL journey and happy to join this reunion :-)
This sounds like a great project and Iโm really looking forward to it. Iโve always found your self reflection, and reflection on that self reflection really inspiring in my own explorationsโฆnow to find my copy of TYOL!
What a wonderful idea! Iโm really looking forward to reading your journey through TYOL this time around. I have read TYOL several times and it has inspired me very much. Looking forward to your new insightsโฆ and as always, love your writing and your content ๐๐ท
Fantastic Cait. Canโt wait to read about your TYOL exploration โค๏ธ

Great reminders, friend! I'm also curious how much grace/compassionate I might still need to give to 29-year-old Cait. We'll see!

No more of that now! Canโt wait to see where this journey takes you on - super exciting ๐คฉ
"...the light was on. Just nobody was home." Wow, that's beautiful to be able to witness in yourself now, Amber!

I might do the same. I read it when it came out.
I think it could be really fun! And/or interesting, at the very least!? So happy you're here, friend! Always nice to see your name โบ๏ธ

I canโt wait!!๐
Oh yay! Wonder what it might make you think of, too! Reflecting on where we were a decade ago...

Oh, so interesting you just re-read it! Glad it helped, Sally!
Thinking about this along with Maddie Burtons newest newsletter about a depth year. Excited to do a reread this year along with :)
Summer, this summer. I know what time is, I swear ๐
Haha, you're not the first person to get the "time" wrong. Considering both words are used many times throughout the post, makes sense!
