The Lighthouse! I have named houses for years and it delights me that you were called to do this. I have moved a lot as well and this essay reminds me my drive has several essays of my own about the topic. Thank you for the reminder to bring that back to the front burner.

You're welcome for the reminder, Tammy! This also makes me think it might be worth saying: I'm not actually planning on writing a book about all my homes. But I'm excited to write stories about this one ☺️

Oh this feels so exciting! I’m looking forward to reading your stories - I must admit it’s been what’s always has drawn me to your writing no matter what umbrella it was under 😊 Love the name of you house also and the whole idea of naming a house. My mum would always name everything we had over time - cars, homes, things and it gave another layer to the relationship with those Thanks for sharing your writing with us 😊.

That's so sweet of you to reflect back to me, friend. Thank you! And your comment made me wonder what some of your home names have been? And also reminded me I've named a couple cars in my life too! I forgot about that ☺️

Hi Cait,

It's great to see you here again.

So can I assume that perhaps you might be leaning towards changing the name of this newsletter to:

(ta da ... !!)

Tales from the Lighthouse?

(kinda killing 2 birds with one stone, perhaps?)

Hello Cait, While reading your post I felt as if I had found a new friend. I, too, have been a nomad staying for only a few years even in homes that I have bought - not just the rented ones. Now I'm back in Toronto in a rented condo.. Even this is still a bit nomadic as I'm only here for half the year and the other half in Mexico. As I don't want to live far from a big body of water. In Toronto I'm right at the lake and in Mexico I can see the Pacific and it's a 10 minute walk down to it. I lived many years in England. Once again, my last house in England was on reclaimed marsh land between a river and a canal. My closest town was the magical town of Rye on the coast of East Sussex and I would swim in the English channel. I'm rambling on and telling you my home history when the main reason why I'm writing to you is to thank you for saying something in your post that was illuminating for me - "intentional living is creative living". BAM! The light went on and the trumpets sounded. This is inspirational for me because I have a tendency (understatement!) to be easily diverted by curiosity and/or procrastination. Thank you.

Ohhh yes, it's true! Intentional living isn't just intentional. If the way you live and love and work wasn't modelled for you, every decision you make is creative. I imagine I'll dedicate some more words to this idea in a future dispatch soon. For now, I just wanted to say hi and thanks! And you're welcome to ramble here anytime ☺️

I love data too lol you made me think and count where I have lived. 11 homes. Shortest was 6 months longest was 15 years. 2 countries. 7 cities. One home owned by me and my spouse. Tbh I first hated my home. Buying in 2022 was a mad house with the interest rates teetering and the housing supply being low with high demand. Had to get used to some neighbors and noise and living far from the city. I joke and say I like in the countryside with an eco system in my backyard. I have grown to love the quiet and the slowing down vs living in 2 big cities (DC and Miami). Home is where you make it. ♥️

You're right about that, friend. And it's such an expansive topic for me. I feel at home in so many places, and so many homes and spaces... The Lighthouse has just been the one I've been the most intentional in. ❤️
